Steps

  1. Complete EX-15 form (or EX-18 for EU registration).
  2. Pay Modelo 790 code 012 fee (~€10).
  3. Book a cita previa online (extranjería / policía nacional).
  4. Attend the appointment with originals + copies.
  5. Receive the NIE assignment paper.

TIE — Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero

Official procedure

Non-EU residents with a residence authorisation.

Steps

  1. Within 30 days of arrival, book cita previa for toma de huellas (fingerprints).
  2. Attend appointment with EX-17, resolution, empadronamiento, 3 photos.
  3. Wait 30–45 days for card production.
  4. Return to collect the physical card.

Steps

  1. Confirm the specific documents required by your ayuntamiento.
  2. Book a cita previa (or walk-in for small municipalities).
  3. Bring proof of address (rental contract, escritura, or homeowner authorisation).
  4. Receive the volante de empadronamiento (usually same day).
